The Annals of African Surgery (AAS), the premier surgical read in the continent, has been accepted into the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE). COPE is the international organization responsible for ensuring publications are done in an ethical manner. Acceptance of the AAS into this prestigious organization is a reflection of the quality of the journal and its commitment to upholding ethical conduct in publishing. Our authors and readers can rest in the comfort that we follow internationally accepted ethical practices. This recognition comes hot on the heels of the admission of the AAS into the Directorate of Open Access Journals (DOAJ) and is a small step in the journey of ensuring we continue to be the home of surgical research in the continent. The Annals of African Surgery joins a very small number of journal in Africa who are members of COPE and is the only surgical journal in Sub Saharan Africa with that recognition.
